The designs
in my jewellery evolve from observing how different processes
like forging or folding effect the shape of a metal form.
Complex three dimensional forms can be created from a flat
sheet by combining one technique with another or one after
another, a specific order is often needed to produce an effect
and sometimes specific dimensions of material are required
to start with or must be achieved during the making process
in order for subsequent processes to work correctly to control
the finished form.
Running parallel to this I currently seek to create jewellery
with forms that echo the subtle qualities of shapes found
in nature. Seeds, pods and leaves are a perennial fascination
which I find lend themselves well to interpretation through
metal. |
