| Career pathway
|
| After completing
a Fine Art degree, I set up my own business in Mural Design.
Whilst enjoying this I began to work in my spare time for a
Couture bridal wear company. I was employed to do hand painting
on the silk dresses, but began to make jewellery as well. I
absolutely loved it and decided I wanted to learn more about
working with precious metals. After finishing a two year course
at Manchester City College, I furthered my skills with an HND
course at The School of Jewellery, UCE. I graduated last year
with both design and making skills, and am now employed as a
jewellery designer at the Jewellery Industry Innovation Centre. |

Relationships |
| Our company
works with companies and designer-makers in the jewellery industry
working within the West Midlands. We are financed by regional
and European funds, making it possible for us to offer the first
40hrs of our time for free. Our aims as a company are to strengthen
relationships within the jewellery industry community, and promote
excellence through innovation and creative design. |

| Inspiration |
| We research
design trends all the time. Whether through looking at magazines,
using the internet, looking at popular culture...we try to absorb
as much as we can. Whenever possible I go to Art galleries,
use the Library and always keep a sketch book. |

| Tips for
Newcomers |
| Get as much
practical experience as possible. Work for different people
in the trade and glean as much knowledge from them as you can.
You need to have some experience before setting up on your own.
Be realistic, but don't limit your vision! |
