| Career pathway
|
| Originally I
had an academic background and after a career in advertising
and marketing in Birmingham, I decided to go to Stourbridge
Art College as a mature student and study on a foundation course
in art and design. Subsequently I was accepted on a fashion
and textile BA (hons) course at the U.C.E. however I was always
interested in mixed media and attending one jewellery course
I was hooked! I then went to Egypt and when I came back was
asked to design and make work for an exhibition called "Out
of Egypt". The work that I produced, to my astonishment
sold and I took my first studio in the Jewellery Quarter in
Birmingham. I sell my work through galleries, high class gift
shops, museums and exhibitions and from my own website. My work
has also gone abroad to America, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan,
Norway and Austria. |

| Industry
Relationships |
| I work in the
Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham and use some of the many craftsmen
there. For example: casters, engravers, setters and polishers. |
| |
| Inspiration |
| I create jewellery
that is inspired by fairy stories, faraway places, myths and
legends, poetry and romantic notions, magic and potions! I love
poetry and the written word, so often engrave inscriptions on
my work. Recently I engraved poetry from Longfellow's "Hiawatha"
and more recently beautiful Haiku poetry for my brand new collection
of work based on the culture of Japan. Most of my work is inspired
by beauty, humour, wit , whimsy and celestial angels. Some of
my pieces have "hidden" inscriptions which only I,
and the wearer, know! |
| |
| Clients |
| I make work
for Galleries, shops, museums and also one-off pieces on commission,
as well as wedding rings. |

| Tips for
Newcomers |
| Have confidence
in your ability and your own unique style. Be prepared to work
hard, be bold not reckless, try new methods and ways of working
and always be true to yourself. |
