| Career
pathway |
Upon
completing my studies in Business and Finance and Computer Science,
I decided to join my father Mr Babu Parekh in his small jewellery
business. My family has a history of Jewellers and I wanted
to carry the tradition. My passion for Jewellery was realised
when I used to help my father in holidays. I loved to create
new designs and when I made my first item of jewellery, from
scratch, I decided it was all I wanted to do.
After working with him for 3years, I decided to open my own
company. The company would be a diverse organisation who not
only designed and manufactured its own ranges, but would accept
commissions on items to be made from retailers, specialising
in Hand Made goods. We pride ourselves on the Quality of product
we manufacture. |

| Industry
Relationships |
I
work with many different people in the industry. I have a vast
network of outworkers who regularly do jobs for me. I work with
many suppliers in the Jewellery Quarter and in Hatton Gardens.
Most relationships are very good, but there are times when I
would kick myself for dealing with people who were not worth
the time or effort. You have to adjust and accept the different
ways people chose to work and try and adjust around it. Quality
is the most important issue for me, and nothing will be compromised. |
| |
| Inspiration |
My
inspiration comes from many areas, ranging from nature to industry.
I manufacture a large range of goods which contain different
colour gemstone which is another big inspiration.
I also look very closely to new trends around the world. I feel
this is important as we are moving more into Globalisation and
we are always at competition from International manufacturers. |
| |
| Clients |
My
main clients are Independent retailers who appreciate and require
high standards of work. I also deal with a few Wholesalers who
again want something different, these kinds of customers provide
what can be described as the bread and butter, as many retailers
do not order in large quantities.
I also deal with friends and family who want special one off
items made for someone special, this is normally by word of
mouth and recommendations. |

| Tips
for Newcomers |
My
number one tip has to be to get as much experience as possible
in the trade before going into business. Education is an absolute
must and the Jewellery School is an excellent place to do it.
The need to find a niche in the trade is also important as there
is much competition from others in the trade who may also be
very good at what they do. |
